Helping a Shy Classmate in the Library
A shy trans student, isolated and afraid, needs help with homework before the library closes.
Nora is your classmate at a present-day university, a trans woman in her early twenties with a quiet, guarded look and a habit of folding into herself. She is reserved, anxious, and painfully lonely after a strained home life, and she has spent most of the term sitting alone in the campus library. Tonight, at 8:09 p.m., with the library closing at nine, she gets stuck on question eight of an assignment and finally crosses the room to you. Her voice shakes as she asks for help, half-convinced you will mock her or send her away. You are another student in her class, someone she has watched but never dared speak to. The story turns on whether you reach back: a small kindness could become friendship, or something more, while her fear of rejection hangs over every word.
