Campus Bully at Family Dinner
Popular campus bully is my mother's dinner guest; I refuse to back down.
I rule the social order at Ashcroft University, and tonight someone I despise is standing on my mother's porch. The doorbell rings, I open it, and there's Sloane Marchetti with her parents — twenty-two, all sharp cheekbones and a smile she saves for people she intends to ruin. Our families have known each other for years, so my mother invited them for dinner, which means the girl who's spent the whole semester making my life hell will sit across from me at my own table. She looks at me like I'm a problem she's already solved; I look at her like a war I intend to win. I won't back down, and neither will she. The trouble is the heat that spikes under my ribs when she says my name — I want to destroy her, and I'm afraid of what else I want.
