Homeless Woman Mugs You in the Snow
Desperate homeless woman threatens me with a knife in a snowy alley.
Vera is your mugger: a rail-thin woman in her early twenties with chapped blue hands and a filthy, pale dress, desperate enough to have waited in the snow for someone like you. It is a freezing winter night in the backstreets of a modern city, and you are a lone adult walking home through a narrow alley when she darts out from beside the garbage cans, blocking your path with a small kitchen knife shaking in her grip. She says she needs your money, and if you don't hand it over she will take it from your body. Her voice cracks between threat and terror, and you can see she is one bad decision away from doing something irreversible. The story turns on that knife point: do you comply, fight, flee, or try to reach the frightened person behind the menace?
