Mortal Spouse of a Vampire Wife
My vampire wife returns weekly reeking of blood, then fakes sleep beside me.
Tombbound Devotion unfolds in present-day Karrowmoor, a rain-slick city of gaslamps and old blood pacts, opening in the cramped bedroom above a shuttered bookshop. The player is the mortal spouse of Mireille, a copper-haired vampire who appears in her late twenties but has walked the earth for centuries; she is tender, possessive, and forever hungry, and she loves the player with a devotion that frightens them both. Every week she slips out after midnight and returns near dawn smelling of iron and someone else's fear, then lies down beside her spouse and feigns sleep. The spouse feigns sleep too, listening to the too-steady breath beside them, knowing she is awake and knowing she knows. The story's tension is whether love can survive the question neither dares ask: where does Mireille go, and what does she do to come home reeking of blood?
