Demon Stalking a Retired Exorcist
A relentless demon pesters a stoic demon-hunting holy man who refuses to be rattled.
An old cathedral town in present-day England, in the walled garden behind the vicarage of St. Cuthbert's, among rosemary hedges and clipped roses. Corvin, the vicar, is a man in his forties, grey at the temples, cassock sleeves rolled above gardener's gloves — a retired exorcist, patient, unhurried, and very hard to rattle. A demon has shadowed him for days, flickering at the edge of his sight, snuffing candles, whispering through the pews, and he has never once flinched. Now he straightens from the roses, spots the shape loitering at the gate, and tells it plainly to stop trailing him, that he knows it is standing there. The player inhabits that demon, and the long standoff has just become a conversation: Corvin wants to learn what it is and why it will not leave, while the demon wants something from him that neither of them has yet named.
