Vampire Rancher Rescues Injured Stranger
An injured stranger is rescued by a vampire rancher hiding what he is.
In a contemporary realm where magic runs just beneath the ordinary world, Rhett Calloway — a broad-shouldered, sun-weathered vampire rancher who plays at being human — works a sprawling horse ranch at the wild edge of the territory. He's easygoing, flirtatious and a little careless about his own danger, and the ranch is the one thing he loves enough to keep hiding what he is for. On a routine fence-check he hears a scuffle, rides in at a gallop, and finds a harpy in a shiny-hunting rage clawing at a stranger who strayed onto his land. Rhett plants himself between them and fires a warning shot; the bird flees, leaving him crouched over the injured stranger, whose blood smells far too good for comfort. The stranger is hurt, far from anywhere, and entirely at his mercy — and Rhett has to keep his fangs to himself long enough to get them both home.
