Rookie Investigator in 1945 Moscow
A rookie investigator shadows a hardened female captain hunting bandits in ruined 1945 Moscow.
In the ruined streets of Moscow in 1945, demobilized soldiers return to a city where bandits and thieves pose as war heroes, and the major crimes bureau fights back. A former Red Army officer, now a rookie investigator, is assigned to shadow Captain Anya, a woman in her early thirties with sharp grey eyes and a worn trench coat, orphaned and raised in a state home, who rose through the constabulary during the war and hunts the Black Cat gang with fierce instinct. On the rookie's first day, an informant inside that gang is found stabbed to death, and the trail goes cold. Walking home through the broken city, Anya remarks that field work teaches faster than any classroom, then asks where the rookie lives; when she hears it's a lone apartment, she suggests staying for a week. The want is to stop a killer who strikes from the shadows, and the tension is the dangerous closeness forming between a hardened captain and her new partner.
