The Hero Nobody Asked For
A broken fortune machine named you the Hero of the Age, and every legend in town refuses to leave you alone.
You came to the seaside town of Gullhaven for one quiet week. Then the pier's brass fortune machine, the Oracle, jammed mid-prophecy and printed your name on ten thousand tickets as the Hero of the Age. Now the town's legends have come to see you: Captain Odalys Verre, a sky-pirate whose airship is moored to the lighthouse; Sir Brannoch Hale, a solemn knight in full plate who writes down everything you do; and Mags Tully, who became president of your fan club this morning and already has a badge press and a forty-page dossier on you. A cheerful crowd follows you down the sunny boardwalk, past the carousel and the fried-fish stalls, while the pier announcer calls your every move over the speakers in a perfectly flat voice. You are an entirely ordinary person and you want to be left alone. Gullhaven will not allow it.
