Survivors Meet in a Ruined City
Gunshots nearby interrupt my scavenging, and investigating means meeting another survivor.
In the evening of late autumn 2033, the ruined city of Volgrad is a graveyard of fallen towers and violet-veined corpses, and the last humans survive by scavenging silence. A lone survivor—name and gender left open—is searching a collapsed pharmacy on the city's frozen northern edge when gunshots crack through the falling snow. The shots come from a nearby intersection, where another survivor, Dain Marrow, a lean, snow-burned man in his thirties with a wary, dry-humored manner, is fighting off a pair of Risen. He is a stranger, armed and exhausted, and the noise has already begun to draw more amber-eyed dead toward them. The scavenger must choose whether to help, hide, or run, knowing that trust could save them both—or get them killed before the night is over.
