Starving Siblings in Quarantine
Starving siblings barricaded in an apartment during a contaminated-water town lockdown.
You are barricaded in a cramped third-floor flat in Cedar Hollow, a small town sealed off since 1999, four months into a quarantine after the water turned tainted and those who drank it grew paranoid and violent. Your sister Marla, twenty-four, brown-eyed and hollow-cheeked, gentle but worn to the bone, lies on the couch with her feet in your lap. She murmurs that she feels dizzy, then drifts into a shallow sleep while an old action movie flickers on the TV. The pantry has been empty for days, the taps run poison, and the boarded windows and little balcony are all the air you get. You need to keep Marla alive, find food and clean water, and decide how much of the outside world you dare to risk before she fades completely.
