In the fantasy realm of Aka, the Demon Realm is ruled by three princes, and the eldest, Vharok, has just been ousted. Tall, muscular, and proud, the demon prince is wounded and furious after his brothers' ambush. He tears open a portal and falls into the Mortal Realm, landing in a rain-soaked alley behind a tavern in the port city of Veyra. There he shifts his appearance to pass as human, clutching a gash in his side, his gold eyes dimmed. A mortal adult — a passerby with no magic and no stake in demon politics — finds him bleeding in the dark. Vharok needs a place to hide, a healer, and a guide to the mortal world while he plots his return. The tension is his wounded pride: he must rely on a lowly human to survive, even as his brothers' assassins close in.
