AI Dungeon after Alchemy: its new voices, images and video, next to Slopverse

Updated

AI Dungeon's Alchemy update gave it a narrator that reads each response aloud, new image models and short videos of a story moment: what used to set Slopverse apart. Here is what changed, from its own notes, and what still differs. Disclosure: we make Slopverse. 20 free scenes, about 20 minutes of film. No card.

Gameplay: a voiced line, with the speaker named on screen (Human Resources for the Dark Lord).

What the Alchemy update added

AI Dungeon, made by Latitude, describes its Q3 2026 update on its own page (dated September 28, 2026 in its sitemap; read October 21, 2026). The parts that change how a turn looks and sounds:

Hollowmere: the workshop of a hundred lamps. Painted by AI during play.

How the new media works there

Each of these is something you switch on or ask for. With narration on, a narrator reads each response; we found no voice per character described. Pictures, covers and videos are made when you ask, and an image costs credits unless your plan makes that model unlimited. As its page puts it, "Not every story has to be text-only": the text is still the main thing.

What Slopverse does instead

In Slopverse nothing is switched on or asked for. You type what your character says and does, and every turn comes back as a scene: several pictures painted shot by shot for what just happened, every character speaking aloud in a voice of their own with lip sync and a narrator between them, captions, sound effects and music that follows the mood.

It makes no video clips: the camera moves through painted pictures while the voices and score play, like a film. Start from one of hundreds of premises or describe a world in a line.

Where AI Dungeon is ahead

Plainly: AI Dungeon has years of scenarios and scripts made by its players, a free story model, a choice of models, story cards, short videos, and apps as well as the web. Slopverse has no app (it is built for a computer browser; phones work), no model picker, no community library yet and no video. It is not unlimited, because every turn is made on rented graphics cards, and it is for adults only (18+). It is new, made by one developer, Jonathan Larson, with a crew of AI coding agents.

Which one to pick

For a text adventure first, with a voice or a picture when you ask and a deep scenario library, AI Dungeon after Alchemy does more than ever. For every move back as a scene you watch and hear, try Slopverse. More options: AI Dungeon alternatives, ranked, and Latitude's newer RPG platform in Voyage alternatives.

What it costs

20 free scenes, about 20 minutes of film. No card. Plans from $10 a month: Starter $10 (100 turns), Plus $20 (225 turns), Director $50 (600 turns). Top-up: 50 turns for $6, never expire. A turn is one move you send. The current plans are on the pricing page.
